Indications

Which crown or bridge material should you prescribe?

Choose by indication. Final material selection is always the clinician's, and we are happy to talk through a case before you prep.

  • Multilayer zirconia: universal, anterior and posterior; strength with the look of layered porcelain
  • Full-contour zirconia: posterior teeth, bruxers and minimal occlusal clearance
  • IPS e.max: anterior crowns where translucency and aesthetics come first
  • PFM: non-ideal preps and cases that call for a cast substructure
  • Bridges: designed case by case. Span depends on the clearance and the support available for the pontics. Zirconia is excellent for bridgework; with irregular opposing occlusion we go to a metal-based restoration (PFM or zirconia over titanium). Send the scan for a design review before you prep.

Materials & process

What materials and process do we use for crowns and bridges?

Universal

Multilayer zirconia

Strength of full-contour zirconia plus the cosmetic result of layered porcelain, in one solid disc. Suggested cement: Ivoclar Vivadent Multilink.

Posterior

Full-contour zirconia

Monolithic, CAD/CAM milled from bio-compatible zirconia. Remarkably durable, with a precise fit. Suggested cement: resin-based or non-expanding glass ionomer.

Anterior

IPS e.max

Lithium-disilicate glass ceramic with the translucency for anterior restorations where aesthetics are paramount.

Classic

Porcelain fused to metal

Non-precious, semi-precious, white high noble or CAPTEK alloys, layered with feldspathic porcelain.

Implant-borne

Crowns on implants

  2. Designed by our technicians

Every case is designed digitally in CAD by our technicians, and we can review a design with you remotely.

  3. Made in house

Ceramics are wet-milled and models and appliances 3D printed in our Madison Avenue lab.

  4. Finished by hand

Stain mixed at the bench, inspected under magnification and glazed with a brush before it ships back.

Crowns & bridges FAQ

Questions dentists ask about crowns and bridges.

Which material do you suggest for a single crown?
Multilayer zirconia is our #1 suggested universal restoration: it combines the strength of full-contour zirconia with the cosmetic result of layered porcelain. For anterior teeth where translucency matters most, IPS e.max is a strong option; for posterior teeth with minimal clearance, full-contour zirconia.
Can you make same-day or next-day crowns?
Yes. Same-day or next-day turnaround is available for crowns. Call the lab before you send so we can schedule it: 212.889.8812.
Which PFM alloys do you offer?
Non-precious, semi-precious, white high noble and CAPTEK alloys, layered with feldspathic porcelain.
Which cement do you suggest?
For multilayer zirconia and IPS e.max, Ivoclar Vivadent Multilink. For full-contour zirconia, a resin-based cement or a non-expanding glass ionomer. For PFM, any self-curing cement; a glass-ionomer cement such as GC FujiCEM works great.
How long a bridge can you make, and what connector size do you need?
There are no fixed span numbers: bridge design is case-specific and depends on the clearance and the support available for the pontics. Some cases allow a 3-unit e.max bridge; in others even splinting two abutments isn’t ideal. Zirconia is excellent for bridgework, but with irregular opposing occlusion we go to a metal-based restoration such as PFM or zirconia over titanium. Send us the scan for a design review before you prep.
Can I send a digital scan for a bridge?
We accept scans from iTero, 3Shape, Medit, Shining 3D, Straumann AXS, Dexis, DS Core and more. Our iTero Lab ID is 4364; other systems can link to us via info@adlny.com. See Send a Case.
Is there a warranty on crowns and bridges?
Every restoration we make carries a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects. We take any restoration failure seriously, so each concern is reviewed individually and the options are discussed directly with you, the doctor.
